In February, more than 50 high school students from the Chicago area participated in Solar Spotlight, a two-day seminar where they interacted with STEM professionals, including ComEd engineers and executives, to learn more about solar energy, famous African-American STEM leaders, and careers in science and technology.
The students assembled portable solar suitcases in conjunction with the team from We Share Solar. The suitcases included solar cells that generate energy and can become a back-up power source during emergencies for lights, cell phones, and computers. The suitcases were sent to local communities in locations like Haiti and Puerto Rico, which have been impacted by hurricanes that caused massive power outages.
