For many, the New Year is a chance to reset, whether in the pursuit of personal goals or even a career change! If it’s the latter, ComEd can help you get your foot in the door of the rapidly growing clean energy industry through FREE career training programs starting in 2025.

“With the clean energy transition expected to bring tens of thousands of jobs to Illinois in the coming years, we’ll need more local, diverse, and skilled workers to power us forward,” said Laticia Holbert, senior manager of workforce development for ComEd. “We, at ComEd, are excited to bring new opportunities in 2025 as we continue to evolve our programs to meet more job seekers where they are with the training needed for good-paying jobs in our fast-growing field.”

Check out some of ComEd’s new and returning training programs in the new year:

CONSTRUCT Infrastructure Academy

ComEd’s flagship job training program, CONSTRUCT Infrastructure Academy, has prepared nearly 900 local residents for entry-level roles in the construction and utility fields since it first launched in 2012. With a more than 70% job placement rate, CONSTRUCT prepares its participants for a variety of roles by delivering a mix of classroom learning on basic electrical knowledge, industry certifications, and physical training needed to take on jobs in the utilities and construction fields. Through the 11-week training, participants are prepared for roles at ComEd and other sponsoring companies in search of local talent, such as HBK Engineering, Primera Engineers, and Trice Construction Company, to name a few. Next year’s cohort will begin on January 22.

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply now through ComEd’s partnering workforce agencies, with Cara Collective joining this year as the newest workforce partner to the program. Craft Academy

For those interested in joining the trades, Craft Academy prepares local jobseekers for entry-level craft roles in the construction and utility fields, like ComEd’s Construction Worker and Overhead Helper positions. In just a few weeks, participants receive a crash course on electrical and construction work, with a special focus on the physical training required to succeed in these roles, such as pole climbing. Next year’s cohort will begin in March 2025.

MDI (Market Development Initiative)

Launched last year, MDI is ComEd’s latest effort to connect local, diverse jobseekers to growing jobs in the clean energy space. With more and more people going electric and making upgrades to their homes and buildings to save on energy use and costs, we’ll need more knowledgeable professionals in the energy efficiency field to complete that work. MDI consists of two cohorts: the Newcomer Cohort and the Skilled Cohort.

The Newcomer Cohort is an opportunity for people brand-new to the industry to learn the basics of HVAC, insulation, and other energy efficiency tactics while getting connected to potential employers.

Meanwhile, the Skilled Cohort welcomes seasoned professionals and small business owners looking to gain advanced training, certifications, and other business support that will push their expertise and business forward.

The Newcomer Cohort will begin on January 27. Find out which cohort might be your best fit, eligibility requirements and how to apply by visiting ComEd.com/MDI.

At ComEd, we know job training opportunities can make a difference not only in the life of an individual but also in their family’s and even community’s. For that reason, investments in training and education initiatives continue to connect local talent to the tools needed to prepare for the roles that will power a cleaner, brighter future. Last year, ComEd’s training and STEM programs collectively reached 2,000 adults and youth across the region, and programs are helping more local residents break into careers in the clean energy sector each year.
