ComEd’s unwavering allyship for the LGBTQIA+ communities shine brightly every day. This dedication is showcased beyond the energy company’s active participation in and support of numerous Pride parades in June.

This support is further exemplified through initiatives such as the company’s Pride employee resource group (ERG). Serving as a supportive and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies across ComEd, with over 200 members, and its parent company, Exelon, the Pride ERG provides networking opportunities, educational workshops, and community outreach efforts to nurture a sense of belonging and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights both within and beyond the company’s walls.

“At ComEd, we believe Pride is more than just a month-long celebration. It’s a year-round dedication to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued for who they truly are,” said Saira Raja, Principal DEI Programs Manager at ComEd. “Our Pride ERG initiatives highlight LGBTQIA+ voices and drive meaningful change within our company and the communities we serve.”

There are several Pride events available to ComEd employees throughout the month of June. These events offer opportunities for employees to celebrate diversity and inclusion, participate in community activities, and support LGBTQIA+ rights. From parades and festivals to educational workshops and networking events, there’s something for everyone to get involved in.

“Being part of the Pride ERG has given me the opportunity to support my work colleagues and community organizations,” said Paul Grimyser, ERG Pride President and Manager of Energy Efficiency Programs at ComEd. “Through internal education programs and planned events, I’m able to promote a positive workplace environment for all ComEd employees, regardless of sexual orientation and identity. I am also honored to be working for a company that wholeheartedly supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

Celebrating Unity and Milestones

This year marks a significant milestone for ComEd as it commemorates its 30th year of participation in LGBTQIA+ parades. This continued dedication to supporting events like the Chicago and Aurora pride parades underscores ComEd’s unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity and diversity. This month, ComEd took part in the 5th Annual Aurora, Ill. Pride Parade with decorated floats and more than 50 employees, friends, and family riding or walking alongside ComEd’s EV float!

“ComEd’s participation in and sponsorship of the Aurora Pride Parade underscores its commitment to fostering inclusivity and supporting the diverse communities it serves,” said Brittney Borowicz Keller, Aurora Board Member. “By championing equality and celebrating diversity, ComEd highlights the invaluable role it plays in powering a more united and vibrant society. Without sponsors like ComEd, the Aurora Pride Parade would cease to exist, making their participation essential to the celebration and support of diversity and inclusion in our community.”

The Annual Aurora Pride Parade is a cherished tradition that serves as a beacon of unity and celebration within the city. Drawing crowds of thousands annually, the parade showcases Aurora’s dynamic LGBTQIA+ community and its allies, signifying the strides made in promoting acceptance and equality.

While the nation celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community, honoring the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, ComEd continues to step up its efforts in celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion. For several years, ComEd has stood as a committed ally, fostering an environment of acceptance and support for its employees and communities alike.

ComEd’s Year-Round Commitment

As ComEd celebrates Pride month, the company’s steadfast commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community remains evident. Through year-round efforts, including the support of the Pride ERG and various community initiatives, ComEd continues to champion inclusivity, diversity, and acceptance.

The ongoing dedication not only honors the history and accomplishments of the Pride community but also sets a strong example for others to follow. ComEd’s participation in Pride events and their continuous efforts to foster an inclusive environment demonstrate the positive impact a committed ally can have on creating a more equitable society for all.
