Nia Byas, a senior at Loyola University studying psychology, is among the 135 students taking part in ComEd’s 2021 virtual summer internship program.

A fourth-year ComEd intern, Byas is grateful the energy company allows students to complete their internships remotely. Last year, the program was also virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Not only is the work that we do as interns important, but this internship has allowed me to further my professional career,” Byas said. “It is important as an undergraduate to gain as much work and networking experiences as we can.”

This summer, Byas worked with ComEd’s customer care strategies and support team to analyze the existing customer service website and suggest solutions to improve the user experience.

“Thankfully, we were able to complete our projects, learn more about the company and build those connections,” she said. “We would not have been able to do so if the program was delayed for a year or two.”

Byas hopes to take the skills she has learned from her experience to the classroom and future career.

“I have learned a lot about myself professionally and personally through this internship,” Byas said.
“I hope that wherever life takes me after my undergraduate education, I can take everything I have learned here and apply it.”
