This back-to-school season, dive into the curriculum instead of your wallet.

To help you save energy and money, ComEd recommends adding these ENERGY STAR® products to your back-to-school shopping list.

Whether your student begins the year e-learning or in a socially distant environment, select products that earn the ENERGY STAR label, which are independently certified to meet strict standards for energy efficiency set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

COMPUTERS AND LAPTOPS:

Looking for a new computer or laptop? Devices with the ENERGY STAR label can help you use 60% less energy.

TABLETS AND OTHER DEVICES:

When it comes to streaming and internet browsing, tablets and slates are the most energy efficient choice. ENERGY STAR certified slates use up to 10% less energy to stream than a gaming console.

PRINTERS:

Print out your next assignment using an ENERGY STAR-certified printer, copier or scanner, which can be up to 30% more efficient.

MODEMS AND ROUTERS:

With e-learning, a stable internet connection is a must. You can use up to 20% less energy when you buy routers and modems marked with the ENERGY STAR certification.

 TELEVISION:

In the market for a new TV to put in your college apartment or dorm? ENERGY STAR certified televisions are, on average, 25 % more energy efficient than conventional models, saving energy in all usage modes: sleep, idle, and on.

MINI REFRIGERATOR:

College students need a mini refrigerator to help them fuel up for big projects. With an ENERGY STAR mini fridge, you can save up to 9% more energy than you would with a standard model.

LIGHT BULBS:

A bright start to the school year begins with good lighting. Save nearly $55 per light bulb in electricity costs by choosing ENERGY STAR light bulbs. ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs can save about 75% more energy than incandescent bulbs and last 15 times longer.

ADVANCED POWER STRIP:

Want an easy way to lower the electricity bill? Unplug devices and appliances when they are not being used. Energy can be drained from plugged-in devices and appliances even when they are off or done charging. Consider using advanced power strips with on/off switches to stop energy drain. ComEd offers $10 discounts at participating retailers.
