During this holiday season, there’s a story of transformation and joy that rings deeply with a ComEd customer, Lidia Elias. Her holiday season took on a new light, courtesy of ComEd’s Powering the Holidays Program and partnerships with other holiday light attractions.

Lidia joyously shared the warmth of creating lasting memories while attending Brookfield Zoo’s enchanting lights event with her grandchildren for the first time. “The kids had a blast, and it is just a warm feeling being able to share this experience with them,” said Lidia.

The synchronized light show was the highlight of the evening. Lidia stood hand in hand with her grandchildren, watching all the colors change in sync with a festive soundtrack. “The children were playing and dancing, and everyone was just having a good time,” said Lidia. She continued to speak about the pure magic of the evening, illustrating the impact made by ComEd and its partners who fund and organize these events.

“The beautifully lit animal sculptures, the festive decorations, and the fun the kids had, will be a cherished chapter — I thank ComEd and Brookfield Zoo for having us in mind,” said Lidia.

ComEd’s commitment to the community through holiday lighting events is also evidenced by the participation of its employee resource groups (ERG), who played an integral part in decorating Brookfield Zoo for their holiday lights and creating an enchanting atmosphere.

“Engaging employees with these programs is truly heartwarming,” said Evelyn Rodriguez Estrada, director of Corporate Relations at ComEd. “It is a joy to contribute to the magic of the season and create memorable moments for families.”

ComEd is a long-time sponsor of holiday lights events at iconic locations such as Lincoln Park Zoo, Brookfield Zoo, The Morton Arboretum, and Chicago Botanic Garden. These partnerships contribute to the magic of the season and create memorable experiences for families and individuals.

ComEd’s Commitment to Holiday Celebrations

ComEd also collaborates with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus to spread holiday cheer across northern Illinois through the ComEd Powering the Holidays Program, an annual effort that transcends the mere illumination of neighborhoods. Since 2021, 46 communities and organizations have received a total of $113,000 in grants to support holiday events that foster unity through intercultural exchanges and promote sustainability using LED lighting.

Louie Binswanger, SVP of Government, Regulatory and External Affairs at ComEd, emphasizes the significance of festive displays in preserving winter traditions. “We are proud to power the magic of the season by supporting a variety of holiday lights displays designed to bring our communities together to celebrate their cultural traditions.”

The Powering the Holidays Program aims to support a variety of holiday lights displays that bring communities together in celebration of their unique cultural traditions. Louie adds, “Festive displays of light are central to the treasured winter traditions of communities across northern Illinois.”

“We are thrilled to once again partner with ComEd on the Powering the Holidays Program,” said Neil James, executive director of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus. “We are always excited to see the variety of light displays. It is rewarding to see these grants provide communities a sense of unity during the holiday season and help people develop a respect and understanding for different cultures.”
