The connected, green and resilient communities of the future may not be as far off as some would believe. Consider the residents of the Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, who are already well on their way toward a cleaner and brighter future.

More than 200 Bronzeville community members attended a technology showcase and workforce expo ComEd recently hosted at Illinois Tech to learn about smart grid technologies in their neighborhood and to connect with local employers.

“Bronzeville has always taken great pride in the legacy of our business pioneers and our innovation,” said Paula Robinson, president of the Bronzeville Community Development Partnership.

Guests got up close and personal with technologies ComEd is deploying in the Bronzeville Community of the Future, such as electric vehicles that support local mobility, the microgrid ComEd is building to make the community more resilient, and wind- and solar-powered LED streetlights.

Attendees also networked with more than 50 employers to learn about job, training, and internship opportunities in energy and other sectors. They also attended professional development seminars on resume writing and interview skills.
