“There is strength in numbers.”

“By failing to plan, you plan to fail.”

ComEd and more than 50 other organizations recently lived up to the truth of these classic sayings, partnering to run a statewide emergency drill, “Operation Power Play 2017,” at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

ComEd organized the two-day event in collaboration with more than 50 other power companies, governmental agencies, emergency services and educational institutions to help prepare for real-life emergency situations. The participating agencies conducted table-top exercises and showcased equipment and vehicles that would be used to respond to a simulated flood, the removal of a suspicious package at a ComEd substation and an oil leak from an underwater transmission cable in the Chicago River.

Part of ComEd’s regular planning and collaboration with federal, state, and local emergency preparedness partners, this year’s drill was highly successful, creating important learnings and critical new relationships.
